Frequently asked lactation questions.
-
If you are paying out of pocket, I charge $200 for an initial consultation, and $175 for any follow up consultations.

Your visit is most likely covered by your insurance. I use The Lactation Network to process the insurance, so if you were not referred by them, see my lactation page and click on the “check coverage” button. Fill out the form with your insurance information and send it through the secure portal to The Lactation Network. They will get back to within 24 hours to let you know if you are eligible or not.
Sometimes people tell me that their insurance company will cover lactation visits. It is still best to go through The Lactation Network because otherwise, your insurance company might be hesitant to reimburse you for a visit with someone who is out of their network. Most insurance companies and plans will pay The Lactation Network directly so you don’t even have to pay them upfront hoping they will reimburse you.
-
Prenatal lactation visits are available and are covered by The Lactation Network if your insurance company is partnered with them (see the “check coverage” button on the Lactation page.)
At a prenatal visit I will do a breast exam, go over the basics of breastfeeding, will answer your questions, and will check your pump to make sure you have correct flange sizes. We can also discuss colostrum harvesting in preparation for the birth.

This is hard to answer because it depends on each individual’s situation. I like to do at least one follow up visit to see how things are going after you have implemented the feeding plan, but if you can’t afford more than one visit we will do our best with one. If you are eligible for coverage through The Lactation Network, you get at least 6 free visits.

You don’t have to go anywhere! The visit will take place in the comfort of your home as long as you live in the northwest area of Chicago.

Initial consultations take from 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your needs. If you are able to fill out the forms ahead of time that you will get when you sign up for an appointment, it will speed up the process.
